The works by Southern writers: from genesis to preservation

This group aims to study the history of literature; the system of creation, production, and consumption of writings; and the worldviews and relationships that Southern Brazilian writers established with their time and other historical periods and to preserve cultural literary memory. These subjects and goals led to the creation of the Southern Writers Collection Research Group by Professor Alice Therezinha Campos Moreira. At present, the group is chaired by Professor Regina Kohlrausch.

Since its creation, the group was charged with organizing the collections at the Faculty of Languages, Linguistic, and Literature that, beginning in 2008, were hosted by Delfos - Space for Documentation and Cultural Memory located at the Central Library of PUCRS. The items donated by the authors or their relatives are treated, organized, and made available to researchers and doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate students.

In 2012, Delfos includes 26 literary collections, all monitored by this group. Eight such collections can currently be consulted, 12 are under preparation, and the remaining collections are scheduled for basic recording procedures. The preservation techniques used include cleansing, selection, and conditioning of the materials, which are then cataloged, and their contents are made available online at the www.pucrs.br/delfos website.

Documents, libraries, photographs, newspapers, correspondences, artwork, and objects are some of the items that comprise the collections. The collected data are the basis of research projects and events on the authors’ lives and work.

Every year, beginning in 2009, the PUCRS hosts meetings devoted to genetic criticism that attracts scholars from the Americas and Europe. In addition, these meetings have generated publications, including Thinking and writing: that which is put on paper, or the consciousness of writing, which corresponds to a lecture delivered by Portuguese Professor Carlos Reis, and The genetics of texts, a translation of Pierre Marc de Biasi’s book performed by Marie-Hélène Parret Passos. Both publications are included in the Delfos Collection, which added two additional titles in 2012.
